The Italian Institute of Evaluation avails of a personalised approach that is centred on the concrete needs of the client or user base. The method adopted in each intervention is characterised by a strictly methodological approach, yet it is also marked by a high degree of operational flexibility. The deontological code on which the work of the Institute is based is expressed below in the form of bullet-points:

  • The Institute considers the bringing to fruition of useful and usable evaluation as essential. Evaluation is not generic research, it is rather analysis conducted so that measures can be taken. It costs time and money.
  • The Institute proposes rigorous approaches with great attention to the fulfilment of clients' objectives and strives to provide a satisfactory product, which respects the mandate received, is useful to the decision-maker and is correct from a deontological standpoint.
  • The institute is committed to the transparency of its work: it provides any clients, who should make a request, with the technical details and those regarding the ways in which all the evaluative processes are carried out for them. The clients themselves can, at any time, check the data that has been gathered and how it is being treated.
  • The Institute carries out participated interventions: first and foremost, with the client or service user, who is involved in the evaluative process, as well as with other relevant stakeholders, with the aim of conducting a strongly active and shared process
  • The Institute proposes an approach that is strictly methodological: participation does not mean improvisation. All results are empirically sound and can, in reality, be faithfully used and confidently spread to other third parties.
  • The Institute assigns ownership of products and research to its clients. The Institute would not divulge any data or results to third parties without prior written consensus from the client.
  • The Institute intends to pursue training objectives that are useful to their clients: evaluative intervention is in itself formative and of training value and guarantees added value of considerable importance. In general, whenever the Institute develops evaluation and monitoring systems, the client is concretely capacitated to work autonomously in any such future endeavours.
  • The Institute ensures that it is strictly deontological in its work: evaluation is useful if it is utilised, and it is utilised if the client is satisfied, recognises the role of the evaluative process, does not feel ill at ease and has been respected. The client is always informed beforehand of the existence of a deontological code that the Institute considers binding and of the ways in which he/she/it can protest, demonstrate disagreement and dissatisfaction.
